The 3 main reasons that I am against this book being banned in this library is that the books language is not as considered as bad as it was when it was first released in the 1970's. Although there is some bad language the book still got the age rating of 12+ on many reviews for the book. That would mean that this book has been approved for middle school students. If this book has been cleared for people of the age 12 and older I do not think that is should be banned in our library. Another reason that this book should not be banned is because this book has spawned a cult following. The book readers now do not care about what was so bad about it when it was first released. People are really devoted to this book and take it very serious. Cult following is an link to an article that discusses the cult following. Taking it away would upset many people since it has become a major part of people's daily lives and has been referenced many times. Taking it away would not allow many people to understand what they are talking about, since this is the most influential science fiction novel written.

The final reason that this book should not be banned is that what made it bad and made it banned then does not really apply now. Some of the words that deemed it bad and the themes the were also deemed bad have become more common and people are exposed to it more frequently. Such as Ford Prefect's drinking problem, many TV shows and other novels depict characters that have these same problems. Also more language that is considered to be harmful has also become more common in today's society. The things that made the book banned in the pasrt
